While still featuring the "silver Streak trim bars over the top of the hood and down the center of the grille, overall the grille took on a more horizontal look for 1938. Now on either side of the "waterfall" grille were horizontal bars running almost as far back as the trailing edge of the headlights. Behind these horizontal bars, on the side of the hood, were ventilation louvers trimed with two chrome bars on the Six and three chrome bars on the Eight.

In 1938 the automotive industry was beginning to take safety a little more seriously. Pontiac's contribution was to add safety glass to all windows, rather than just to the windshield. Other safety features were a thumb controlled "Safety-Release" emergency brake lever, a new front seat back with "Safety-Rolled" cushioning and an optional ($10) gear shift lever on the steering column.
