1963 Pontiac
1963 saw a totally new design across all models. The standard size Pontiacs notabley went to stacked quad headlights on either side of a recessed split grill, which was separated by a "V" embellished with the Pontiac emblem.
GM banned factory racing efforts, so the focus for 1963 was on luxury and style.
Models available were Catalina, Star Chief, Bonneville, Grand Prix and the "semi-compact" Tempest.
Engines available on standard sized cars were 389 cubic inch V-8s with horsepower ratings from base V-8 in the Catalina rated at 215 horsepower to the Tri-Power Tempest 425A option rated at 313 horsepower. In spite of its name, the Tempest 425A engine was available on all models.
Also offered were 421 cubic inch H.O. rated from 353 horsepower or the triple-carburetor 370 horsepower version.
Additionally, a 421 cubic inch Super-Duty 421 was available on Catalinas for off-road use only. Three versions of this engine were rated at 390, 405 and 410 horsepower.
