1962 Pontiac
Standard Pontiacs for 1962 grew in length by 1-1/2 inches. Styling updates included a V-shaped split grille, sculpted side panels and curved tail lights.
Models available were Catalina, Star Chief, Bonneville, Bonneville Custom, and Grand Prix.
Engines for the regular lineup were still the 389 cu. in. V8 with horsepower ratings ranging from 215 up to the "Super Duty 389" with output of 385 horsepower. A "Super-Duty 421" was available in two-door Catalina for off-road use only.
The Tempest for 1962 featured a three-piece, divided grille, and were available in standard and Custom trim four-door notchback sedans as well as four-door Safari wagons with a one-piece "lift-gate". Mid-year saw the introduction of a coupe model dubbed LeMans. Custom and LeMans convertibles were also available.
Tempest engine options included the "Indy Four" rated from basic 110 hp to the top of the line 166 horsepower version with a Rochester four-barrel carburetor.
A 215 CID V-8 was offered for Tempests rated at 185 horsepower.
