Newly in charge of the Pondiac division, Bunkie Knudson was directed to use the existing 1956 designs for the '57. A new, massive grille was added, as well as missile-shaped side trim, 15 inch wheels, and smoothed-out rear fins. The eye-brows above the headlights disappeared. The V8 was stroked out to 347 CID producing 227 hp for the manual transmission models, and 290 for those with automatic transmissions.

The big news for Pontiac was the introduction, mid year, of the Bonneville, a Star-Chief convertible with the V8 bored out to 370 CID generating 310 hp, the addition of fuel injection and an agressive cam. As impressive as the performance was, the car's 4300 curb weight dulled it down a bit.
